About Cliff

Born next to my mom in a village called Louth in Lincolnshire, on the 23 of May don’t remember too much of that time apart from I couldn’t walk for a year which I found to be a bit of a bummer. After going through a traumatic terrible two’s I found the southing calming effect of radio, my first recollection was         two - way family favourites with Jean Metcalf and Cliff Michelmore, it was at this point in my youth I was thinking Cliff’s a good name for a presenter, although at one point I thought of singing but some older guy got there before me someone called Harry Webb, he had to change his name.

As a teenager I received a transistor radio for my 12 Birthday, under the bed clothes at night I would troll threw the stations there was one that stuck out it 208 radio Luxemburg listening to Chris Denning, and Sam Costa they were both responsible for the depletion of my pocket money on batteries, every night I would listen thinking I would love to do that. One day.

After joining the army in 1969, in 1972 found myself in Cyprus for a year I started working in a club called the Calypso bar in Limassol, went there last year and it’s still there, I was asked to join the Akrotiri broadcasting centre a local radio for the RAF base, they trained me and at last I had arrived in the job I always wonted, ok so it was three times a week but I loved it and I did have a proper job as an army bandsman, (clarinet as I know you were going to ask me that). Anyway out of the army a  quiet few years later working as a Dj in Saturdays night club in the centre of Manchester and a proper job in the ambulance service, in 1989 I was contacted by an old friend who asked me if I wanted to do a show on a new station Sunset Radio this was my chance to work on a commercial radio, I was also asked to join radio Lancashire in the same week, I joined Sunset on the first day of broadcast I did one show and  a week later I was asked to do four at last I had arrived I also couldn’t believe that I had to turn down the job for the BBC. After a few years had passed I joined Fortune 1458. I was doing RSL’s (Restricted service licence) radio Warrington and at the time a station called WFMR later to be called wire fm.  It was there I met the team that set up Cheshire FM. They must have liked what I was doing as I was asked to do the breakfast show in 2006 and then a year later applied to be one of the team and the rest as they say is history.

Take care
